Applet: Simple Inclined Plane

Here you can explore the physics of the inclined plane. For the mass M, we show all forces, gravity and normal force, acting on it. As you change the angle, you can see how the components of the forces change.

Initially M is at rest, held by the hand. If you release the mass, then the friction force is also acting on the mass. You can adjust that force by changing the friction coefficient.

Press "Start", and the hand vanishes and start the simulated motion of the box on the plane.
